Indian Husband Kills Wife, Three Relatives While Children Were Inside Home In Georgia

A late-night shooting in the US state of Georgia has left four members of an Indian-origin family dead following what authorities believe was a domestic dispute.

In Lawrenceville, Georgia, a shooting linked to a domestic dispute resulted in the deaths of four Indian-origin family members; the accused, Vijay Kumar, has been arrested following the incident that occurred early Friday. The Indian Consulate in Atlanta is assisting the family, and the victims were identified as Meemu Dogra, Gourav Kumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander.
The incident took place in Lawrenceville city in the early hours of Friday, while three children were inside the house at the time of the attack.
Indian Consulate Expresses Grief Over Incident
Confirming the involvement of an Indian national among the victims, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta said it was coordinating with local authorities and extending assistance to the affected family. Sharing a statement on X, the consulate said, "We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and all possible assistance is being extended to the bereaved family."
The mission said it remains engaged with law enforcement officials to ensure support for the family during the investigation.
Victims and Accused Identified by Police
Local media reports citing Gwinnett County police identified the accused as Vijay Kumar, 51, a resident of Atlanta. The victims were named as his wife Meemu Dogra, 43, along with Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. All four were found dead inside the residence, having suffered fatal gunshot injuries.
Authorities said the shooting stemmed from a family argument, though the exact circumstances leading up to the incident are still being examined.
Children Hid as Shooting Unfolded Inside Home
Police said they received an emergency call at around 2.30 am local time from a residence on Brook Ivy Court. Officers arriving at the scene discovered four adult victims inside the house. Investigators revealed that three children were present when the shooting occurred and managed to hide inside a closet to stay safe.
One of the children placed a 911 call, providing crucial information that helped officers reach the location quickly. The children were not physically harmed and were later taken into the care of a family member.
Vijay Kumar has been booked on multiple charges, including four counts each of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder, along with charges related to cruelty to children. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
