Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III and once known publicly as Prince Andrew, has been detained by UK police after fresh allegations surfaced in connection with the long-running controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein. Investigators suspect he may have shared confidential government material with the disgraced financier.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III, was arrested at the Sandringham estate by UK police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, amid allegations of sharing confidential government material with Jeffrey Epstein in 2010. Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrest and stated an investigation is underway; the ex-royal has denied any wrongdoing.

Police Operation at Sandringham Residence

According to reports first highlighted by The Daily Telegraph and later carried by Reuters, police officers arrived at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate in eastern England earlier in the day. Witnesses described six unmarked police vehicles and about eight plain-clothes officers entering the property.

The former royal was taken into custody at the estate, which has been used as his temporary residence. Thames Valley Police confirmed an arrest but did not publicly identify him, consistent with British legal practice when a suspect has not been charged.

The force said it had detained "a man in his sixties" on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Allegations Tied to Jeffrey Epstein

Authorities are examining claims that Mountbatten-Windsor passed confidential trade or government reports to Jeffrey Epstein in 2010. Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died in prison in 2019 while awaiting further trial proceedings.

The ex-royal has repeatedly denied wrongdoing connected to Epstein, though he previously acknowledged that he regretted maintaining a relationship with him.

Investigation Formally Opened

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said the arrest followed an internal review of evidence and complaints.

"Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,'' the statement said.

"It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence."

Police added they are currently "assessing" reports relating to documents allegedly sent to Epstein.

Royal Background and Legal Process Ahead

Mountbatten-Windsor is the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II and has long been a controversial figure in the British royal family's modern history. He stepped back from official royal duties in recent years following earlier scrutiny related to Epstein.

Under UK procedure, an arrest does not amount to a charge. Investigators are expected to question the former royal and examine communications and documents before deciding whether to bring formal charges.
