Warrant Reissued for Arrest of Former US Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (22) reissued a warrant for the arrest of former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States, Jaliya Wickramasuriya, over allegations of misappropriating government funds.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued the order as the suspect continues to evade the court.
The Magistrate further directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to seek instructions from the Attorney General regarding the case and to report back to the court on December 9.
Wickramasuriya was previously arrested and remanded by the CID during the 2015 – 2019 government period over allegations of misusing USD 132,000 in state funds during the acquisition of a building for the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Although he was later released on bail, he obtained court permission to travel abroad under relaxed bail conditions and has since failed to return to the country.
