Foreign Ministry Issues Statement on Anojan Sivarasa’s Case

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism issued a statement confirming that it is closely monitoring the situation surrounding Mr. Anojan Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan national currently facing legal proceedings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to the Ministry, developments are being continuously tracked through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh and in coordination with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Colombo.
Relatives of Anojan Sivarasa stated that he has been sentenced to death. The sentence was reportedly imposed over a social media post allegedly made by Sivarasa while working in Saudi Arabia, which was deemed insulting to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism is closely monitoring the case of Mr. Anojan Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan national currently facing legal proceedings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Through the Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh and in coordination with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Colombo, the Ministry is continuously tracking developments in this regard.
The Ministry remains engaged with relevant Saudi authorities through diplomatic channels and is taking appropriate steps to safeguard the rights and interests of Mr. Anojan Sivarasa and to extend all possible assistance to him.
