In a remarkable and unprecedented humanitarian gesture, two senior Sri Lankan lawyers have stepped forward to travel to Saudi Arabia at their own personal expense to render legal assistance to Sivarasa Anojan, a young Sri Lankan currently facing the death penalty in a Saudi court.

This disclosure was made in Parliament yesterday (22) by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, while presenting a special Ministerial Statement regarding the ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Sri Lankan Government to secure relief for the condemned youth.

Minister Herath revealed that President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma and President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha have voluntarily offered to visit Saudi Arabia using their private funds to provide direct legal representation and assistance for Anojan.

Addressing the Parliament, the Minister elaborated on the government’s dual approach-combining official diplomatic channels with this specialized legal intervention—to advocate for the Sri Lankan national’s life and ensure all possible legal remedies are pursued.
