Indian Arrested at BIA with Kush Worth Over Rs 20 Million
An Indian national was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for attempting to smuggle over Rs. 20 million worth of ‘Kush’ an extremely potent cannabis strain into Sri Lanka.
The 38-year-old suspect was apprehended during a joint operation by the Police Narcotics Bureau and Sri Lanka Customs. Officers discovered 2 kilograms and 130 grams of Kush hidden in a false bottom of his travel bag.
He had arrived from Chennai on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 124. Authorities say the drugs were concealed in a specially modified compartment, indicating a well-planned smuggling attempt.
Police estimate the street value of the seized narcotics to exceed Rs. 20 million, making this one of the largest recent cannabis-related seizures at the airport. Investigations are ongoing to uncover potential links to an international drug trafficking network.
