Comrade Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), met with Comrade Xi Taifeng, a member of the Politburo and Head of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), during a high-level meeting held recently at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The meeting was part of an official visit by the JVP delegation at the invitation of the CPC. Discussions focused on strengthening the enduring political relationship between the two parties and exploring avenues for collaboration in economic and grassroots development.

Comrade Xi Taifeng emphasized the importance of strengthening political theory and leadership within party structures, expressing China’s readiness to share its organizational experiences with the JVP. He also reaffirmed China’s willingness to support Sri Lanka’s development efforts in line with agreements reached during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China earlier this year.

In response, Tilvin Silva noted that the ties between the CPC and JVP, as well as between the two nations, had deepened significantly through ongoing exchanges. He highlighted the valuable insights gained during visits to villages in Zhejiang and Guizhou, which could be applied to Sri Lanka’s own rural development initiatives.

Silva also expressed gratitude for China’s historic and ongoing support, including assistance through the Rubber-Rice Pact and the long-running provision of school uniforms to Sri Lankan students. He voiced hope that the program would continue into 2026.

The meeting was attended by senior CPC leaders, including Sun Haiyan, Deputy Minister of the International Department, while the JVP delegation included Deputy Ministers Eranga Gunasekara and Munir Mulaffar, along with MPs A.M. Jegadeswaran, Deepthi Wasalage, and Dharmapriya Wijesinghe.

The dialogue reaffirmed the shared political values and developmental priorities of both parties, underscoring their commitment to continued cooperation.
