JVP General Secretary Meets Former Nepalese PM
A meeting between the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, and the former Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was held this morning (18th) at the JVP Head Office in Pelawatta, Battaramulla.
During the discussion, they reflected on the political journey of the JVP and the National People’s Power (NPP) prior to assuming governance, while also sharing insights from the experiences of the Communist Party of Nepal.
Special focus was given to the steps taken by the NPP government to stabilize the Sri Lankan economy, implement salary increments for public sector and plantation workers, eliminate fraud and corruption from the political arena, and transform the privilege-based political culture.
Furthermore, the duo discussed the ongoing ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national project and the extensive measures implemented to eradicate the drug menace in the country.
The meeting was also attended by Vijay Prashad representing the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research; Prof. Xinyu Lu from East China Normal University; Balram Banskota, Central Committee Member of the Communist Party of Nepal; Ganga Dahal, Member of the Communist Party of Nepal; and Tings Chak, Representative of the International People’s Assembly.
Representing the JVP, Central Committee Members Minister of Environment Dhammika Patabendi and Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, alongside JVP International Committee Members Rangana Devapriya (National Organizer of the Socialist Students’ Union) and Kalpana Madhubhashini, participated in the discussion.
