Namal Rajapaksa to be Produced Before Court Today

Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Member of Parliament who is currently in remand custody, is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (16).

This order was issued to the Superintendent of Prisons by Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena following a submission made by the Attorney General’s Department on the 14th, naming MP Namal Rajapaksa as a suspect in an ongoing money laundering case related to financial irregularities in the aircraft acquisition process of SriLankan Airlines.

Namal Rajapaksa was previously arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on charges of receiving bribes connected to the Airbus deal. Following his appearance before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, he was remanded until the 18th.
