Police on High Alert: Penal Code Sections 262 & 263 Implemented Against Dengue Breeding

The Sri Lanka Police has announced that strict legal action will be taken under Sections 262 and 263 of the Penal Code against individuals who act irresponsibly and allow the breeding of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Due to the negligence of certain individuals, the total number of dengue patients in the country has surged towards the 70,000 mark, with 50 deaths reported so far. In light of this alarming situation, the enforcement of these legal provisions empowers authorities to impose both prison sentences and monetary fines on offenders.
According to the police announcement, acting with negligence despite being well aware that such actions could create a life-threatening situation is defined as a punishable offense under these Penal Code sections.
This stringent legal framework is being enforced for public safety at a time when extensive awareness campaigns have already been carried out to educate the public on dengue prevention.
