The event also celebrated a historic achievement for SEF, USA, which completed an unprecedented 500,000 free eye surgeries during the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The milestone marks the halfway point toward the organization’s ambitious Vision 2030: March to a Million initiative, which aims to provide one million free eye surgeries annually to underserved communities across India by 2030.

Countdown Begins for Sonu Nigam Live at the Dolby Theatre
SEF, USA’s next major fundraising event will feature celebrated Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam performing live at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Known for his soulful ballads, energetic performances, and exceptional stage presence, Sonu Nigam’s concert will support SEF, USA’s Vision 2030: March to a Million campaign.
Scaling Infrastructure: The March to a Million
What began in 1998 with a single eye hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, performing 8,000 surgeries during its first year has grown into one of India’s largest charitable eye-care networks. Today, SEF, USA supports 29 hospitals across 14 states, providing high-quality, accessible eye care to underserved communities.
“Reaching 500,000 free eye surgeries annually is a testament to the power of our collective community,” said Murali Krishnamurthy, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of SEF, USA.
To achieve its Vision 2030 goal of providing one million free eye surgeries each year, SEF, USA continues to invest significantly in expanding its healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved rural regions. Key projects include:
Akhand Jyoti Rajiv Latika Jain Campus (Mastichak, Bihar): A state-of-the-art mega facility designed to perform up to 230,000 free eye surgeries annually.
Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital (Jalpaiguri, West Bengal): A major expansion project that will double the hospital’s annual free surgery capacity to 40,000.
RJ Sankara Eye Hospital (Patna, Bihar): Following its foundation stone ceremony in July 2025, the new facility is expected to provide 30,000 free eye surgeries annually.
Netaji Eye Hospital (Kolkata, West Bengal): Currently delivering up to 20,000 free eye surgeries each year.
A Sustainable Model of Excellence and Outreach
The organization’s milestone of 500,000 free eye surgeries was made possible through an extensive rural outreach program. Specialized medical teams travel to remote villages across underserved regions to conduct free vision screening camps for cataracts, glaucoma, and other treatable eye conditions.
Patients diagnosed with vision-threatening conditions are transported to the nearest SEF network hospital, where they receive surgery, medications, and comprehensive post-operative care before being safely returned to their villages—all at absolutely no cost to them or their families.
This life-changing work is sustained through SEF, USA’s proven cross-subsidy model, in which revenue generated from paying patients helps fund treatment for economically disadvantaged individuals.
