Supreme Court Rules Cabinet Decision by Mahinda Rajapaksa Unlawful; Irregular Police Promotions Annulled

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has ruled that the fundamental rights of police officers were violated by granting illegal promotions to three officers who were improperly utilized for the personal duties of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Rajapaksa family.

According to the judicial determination, Y.B. Krishantha (ranked 146th in seniority), S. Gunathilaka (ranked 326th), and Prashantha Perera (ranked 401st) were bypassed and promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) through a Cabinet decision driven by political influence.
