Today Marks Two Years: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Election Victory Anniversary
Today, September 21, marks exactly two years since the historic Presidential Election in which President Anura Kumara Dissanayake secured victory with a margin of nearly 1.3 million votes from the registered voters of Sri Lanka.
Over the past two years, despite occasional demonstrations held against the administration, the government has maintained a peaceful and constructive approach. Notably, not a single tear gas canister or water cannon attack has been deployed against citizens. Instead, all grievances and issues raised during protests have been addressed through direct dialogue and negotiations. It is against this backdrop that the fractured opposition continues to propagate claims of an authoritarian regime while remaining in disarray.
Furthermore, the government has successfully accelerated the recovery of the country’s previously bankrupt economy. By keeping the budget deficit at a minimal level, the administration has also initiated large-scale infrastructure and development projects financed through domestic capital investment.
