20-Year-Old Corruption Files Expire Without Action by Bribery Commission

It has been revealed that complaint files regarding large-scale financial crimes committed in Sri Lanka had to be discarded after remaining inactive for over 20 years.
This revelation was made during an inquiry into the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) by the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
It was disclosed that under the legal framework governing the Commission, no legal action can be pursued regarding complaints that are more than 20 years old.
