Namal and Yoshitha Cleared Containers Without Customs Inspection via ‘Tharunyatath Hetak’, Book Reveals

It has been revealed that consignment containers imported from abroad for the ‘Tharunyatath Hetak’ organization, operated under the full authority of Namal Rajapaksa and Yoshitha Rajapaksa, were smuggled out of the port without any Sri Lanka Customs inspection.

This revelation comes from the book titled Rajapaksa Samagama (Rajapaksa Company), a collection of articles authored by former Ravaya journalist Lasantha Ruhunage.

According to the publication, the ‘Tharunyatath Hetak’ organization was registered on April 4, 2007, under the Companies Act, listing Temple Trees—the official residence of the Prime Minister—as its registered office address. Namal Rajapaksa served as the President of the organization, while Yoshitha Rajapaksa served as its Vice President.

Addressing the secret clearance of these containers, Rajapaksa Samagama notes:

“Tax exemptions could have been legitimately obtained for donations and projects initiated by the Tharunyatath Hetak organization, such as ‘Youth TV’. However, there was no legitimate requirement to secretly remove containers arriving from overseas in the organization’s name from the port without clearance.”

The book further notes that detailed investigative articles regarding the illegal clearance of these containers were originally published in the Ravaya newspaper on January 17 and January 24, 2010.
