The Colombo High Court has ordered the corruption case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and former Commander of the Navy Wasantha Karannagoda, to be recalled on the 29th of this month.

When the case was taken up before the High Court today (13), the defendants, Wasantha Karannagoda and Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who are currently out on bail, were present in court.

Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela, who ordered the case to be recalled on the 29th, further instructed the defendants to appear in court on that date.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed indictments against the two under corruption charges, alleging that between September 1, 2006, and June 8, 2007, while serving as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, defendant Yoshitha Rajapaksa was improperly facilitated to participate in the “Royal Navy Young Officers Course” at the Royal Naval College in Britain, thereby causing a loss to the government.
