A4H Urges Diplomatic Action, Due Process, and Protection of Fundamental Human Rights

Fremont, California — October 15, 2026

Americans4Hindus (A4H) expresses grave concern over reports that Anojan Sivarasa, a 24-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil Hindu engineer, has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia following a social media comment involving religious beliefs

According to information published by the International Commission for Human Rights and Religious Freedom (ICHRRF) on October 12, 2026, Sivarasa was arrested on July 1, 2026, following a Facebook comment allegedly considered offensive to Islamic religious beliefs. Reports indicate that he subsequently deleted the comment and issued an apology.

He was initially sentenced to five years in prison and fined three million Saudi riyals. On September 17, 2026, an appellate court reportedly increased the sentence to death.

These developments raise serious concerns regarding freedom of expression, religious liberty, proportionality of punishment, and access to fair legal proceedings.

Statement from Dr. Romesh Japra, Founder and Chairman of Americans4Hindus

Dr. Romesh Japra, Founder and Chairman of Americans4Hindus, expresses deep concern over the reported death sentence imposed on Anojan Sivarasa and urges immediate humanitarian and diplomatic intervention to protect his life. He emphasizes that freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and human dignity are fundamental rights that must be respected universally. Dr. Japra calls upon the United States, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and relevant international human rights institutions to work constructively toward preventing an irreversible tragedy, ensuring due process, and securing a peaceful and humane resolution.

A4H Calls for Immediate Humanitarian and Diplomatic Action

Americans4Hindus respectfully urges the Government of Saudi Arabia to halt any execution proceedings, reconsider the reported sentence, and ensure that Sivarasa receives appropriate legal representation and protection under applicable international human rights standards.

A4H also encourages the Government of Sri Lanka to pursue all available diplomatic and consular channels to protect its citizen and seek his release and safe return.

Furthermore, A4H appeals to the United States Government, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to engage through appropriate diplomatic mechanisms to help secure a just and humanitarian outcome.

Religious Freedom and Human Dignity Must Remain Universal

Americans4Hindus firmly believes that respect for religious beliefs and traditions must coexist with the protection of fundamental human rights.

No individual should face an irreversible punishment solely for peaceful expression, even when that expression is considered offensive.

This appeal is not directed against any religion, nationality, or community. It reflects A4H’s commitment to protecting Hindu communities while upholding the universal principles of justice, compassion, religious freedom, and human dignity.

A4H calls for urgent international cooperation to protect Anojan Sivarasa’s life, ensure fair treatment, and pursue his release through peaceful diplomatic engagement.
