March 18, Colombo (LNW): In response to match-fixing allegations within the ongoing Legend Cricket League tournament, which showcases seven teams of retired international cricketers at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has taken action. Upon a request from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) for Preventing Sports Offences, Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued an order preventing two team managers of the Legend Cricket League from leaving the country. This order, effective from March 15, will remain in force for one month. The court’s decision stems from a complaint lodged by former Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga, representing the Kandy Samp Army, and New Zealand cricket legend Neil Broom, representing the Punjab Royals. Both individuals allege that they faced pressure to engage in match-fixing deals. The ongoing tournament at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is scheduled until March 19. The travel restrictions imposed on Yoni Patel and P. Akash, the implicated team managers, are applicable for a duration of one month.
