Foreign Woman Arrested at BIA with Cocaine Worth Rs. 10 Million

An Angolan woman has been arrested by officers of the Customs Biodiversity, Cultural and National Heritage Protection Division (Narcotics Control Unit) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for possessing 237 grams of cocaine, valued at over Rs. 10 million.

The 54-year-old suspect had reportedly traveled from Angola to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and then arrived in Sri Lanka via Doha, Qatar.

According to airport sources, after disembarking from the aircraft, the woman had requested wheelchair assistance. However, her suspicious behavior aroused the attention of the Customs officers on duty.

Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily handed over 14 capsules containing cocaine that were in her possession. Furthermore, she admitted to the officials that she had swallowed several other drug capsules.

The Customs Narcotics Control Unit is conducting further investigations into the incident.
