Pohottuwa Organizer Remanded for Severe Sexual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Girl

Suwahas Nisala, an organizer for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP/Pohottuwa) in the Nikaweratiya North Division and a candidate in the previous local government election, has been arrested and remanded until the 25th for severely sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

According to police reports, the underage girl had gone to stay at a relative’s house following a family dispute between her parents. The suspect lured the girl to his house under the pretext of offering her a safe place to stay, where he subsequently assaulted and abused her.

The victim later disclosed the crime to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the Nikaweratiya Police. Police acted immediately to admit the girl to the hospital, where she revealed all details during questioning by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO).

Following the medical findings, police arrested Suwahas Nisala and produced him before the magistrate’s court, where he was ordered to be remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
