Sri Lanka Police have launched a high-level investigation into a group of politicians suspected of owning multimillion-rupee luxury residences in Colombo without proper financial justification.

The probe, led by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Illegal Assets Investigation Division, is focusing on former ministers and influential political figures whose property acquisitions appear disproportionate to their declared income.

According to senior police sources, the investigation is part of a broader crackdown on illicit asset accumulation and financial misconduct by those who once held public office. Authorities have already gathered preliminary evidence and are expected to question several individuals in the coming weeks.
