Prime Minister Emphasizes Peace and Tolerance in Milad-un-Nabi Message
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has extended her heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Sri Lanka and across the globe on the sacred occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
In her statement, the Prime Minister highlighted that Prophet Muhammad delivered a powerful message of peace, equality, compassion, and mutual respect. She noted that his teachings are more relevant today than ever, as the global community faces complex political, economic, and humanitarian crises alongside devastating armed conflicts that claim innocent lives.
“The most significant lesson our country and modern society can draw from the Prophet’s life is dedication to justice, religious tolerance, and public welfare,” the Prime Minister stated. She emphasized that as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, Sri Lankans must practically integrate these principles into daily life to stand together in unity and sensitivity toward one another.
Reflecting on global turmoil, Dr. Amarasuriya expressed her hope for a peaceful world free from armed conflicts, calling for collective prayers and support for all those suffering, displaced, and afflicted by the violence of war.
She also pointed out that the National Milad-un-Nabi celebrations—centered in the Gampaha District at the Al-Hilal National School premises in Periyamulla, Negombo—serve as a prime opportunity to celebrate diversity while strengthening religious harmony and brotherhood across Sri Lanka.
Concluding her message, the Prime Minister commended the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the organizing committee for their efforts, wishing all Sri Lankan and global Muslim devotees a peaceful, prosperous, and joyous Milad-un-Nabi.
