Ready to Face Any Challenge: Official Data Confirms Economic Recovery

Official data confirms that Sri Lanka’s economy has returned to pre-2022 levels, marking a significant recovery after the nation officially declared bankruptcy in 2022.

Economic analysts highlight that Sri Lanka stands out as one of the few nations to recover so rapidly from such a severe economic crisis within a short timeframe.

The National People’s Power (NPP) government has been actively addressing the root causes of the economic downturn. As a result, the budget deficit—which stood at Rs. 236 billion in the first five months of 2025—has turned into a budget surplus of Rs. 197 billion during the first five months of this year. This reflects an increase of Rs. 433 billion in government revenue compared to the previous year.

Citing these indicators, the Governor of the Central Bank stated that Sri Lanka is building a stable foundation capable of withstanding any future economic challenges.
