Sri Lanka Customs Goes Paperless Starting Today

Marking a significant transformation in Sri Lanka Customs operations, a fully paperless customs declaration system comes into effect today (01).

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, all importers and declarants are now strictly required to submit their customs declarations and related documentation backed by a valid Digital Signature.

The Ministry emphasized that customs declarations submitted through the legacy paper-based process will no longer be accepted.

Launched under the broader national framework to digitize public services, the paperless declaration system aims to render the customs clearance process significantly more efficient, rapid, and transparent.

Furthermore, as the new system automatically detects any modifications made after a digital signature has been applied, it is expected to drastically minimize opportunities for fraud and corruption within the clearance pipeline.
