Minister Ananda Wijepala Orders Immediate Probe into Sagara Kariyawasam’s Statement on IGP

Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala stated that an immediate investigation will be conducted into the controversial statement made by former MP and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sagara Kariyawasam, regarding Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya.

Minister Wijepala emphasized that the statement would not be taken lightly and instructions have been issued to conduct a thorough inquiry and initiate necessary legal proceedings.

The Minister further stated that Kariyawasam’s political movement is one that sacrificed human lives for political power, adding that such remarks reflect the violent, barbaric, and paranoid nature of their political ideology. He highlighted that these statements repeatedly prove how far they are willing to go to regain power.

During a recent media briefing, former MP Sagara Kariyawasam stated that IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya should stop serving the ruling government and instead serve the state and its citizens. Kariyawasam added that he would not like to see Weerasooriya become the 37th IGP to die as a result of being beaten by the public on the streets.
