Police Report to Court Regarding Sagara Kariyawasam’s Statement

The Central Crimes Investigation Bureau today (06) reported facts to the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court under case number 17661/2026 regarding a statement made by Lawyer Sagara Kariyawasam, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), concerning Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya.

Accordingly, the court ordered that a further progress report on the ongoing investigations be submitted on September 24.

During the proceedings, the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau presented several requests to support their investigation, all of which received judicial approval.

Following these requests, Kaduwela Magistrate Aruna Indrajith Buddhadasa ordered six media organizations to hand over unedited video footage of the threatening statement made against the IGP by Sagara Kariyawasam during a media conference.

The Central Crimes Investigation Bureau further informed the court that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
