Unrest in Prisons: Suspicions Mount Over Plot Involving 4 Key Factions

A special investigation is drawing attention to whether the four main factions historically involved in importing drugs, distributing them, facilitating the trade, and providing full political protection are behind the recent unrest across Sri Lanka’s prisons.

While concerns first emerged following the initial unrest reported at the Negombo Prison, recent public statements made by former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa on Friday (07) have further fueled suspicions of a broader conspiracy. During his remarks, Rajapaksa warned that not only prison disturbances, but further incidents could be expected in the near future.

His warning came in response to questions posed by a group of media personnel as part of an ongoing publicity campaign. Political analysts commenting on the situation have urged the government to treat these statements with utmost seriousness and take immediate, proactive measures to address any potential threats.
