Renewables Power 72 Percent of Sri Lanka’s Electricity in June
Sri Lanka has hit a major clean energy milestone, with 72% of its electricity in June generated from renewable sources — the highest share since the 1990s, according to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
CEB spokesperson Dhammika Wimalaweera attributed the achievement to favorable weather conditions and consistent investment in solar, wind, and small hydro power. He noted that renewable generation has hovered near 70% in recent months but officially surpassed the mark in June.
The shift underscores the country’s growing focus on sustainable energy and improved grid integration, signaling progress toward long-term energy independence and environmental responsibility.
